About Me
Marcus Whitley
Language & Symbolism Researcher
I've spent the last decade collecting bird phrases, sayings, and cultural references from across the globe—partly out of genuine fascination with how different cultures use the same creatures as metaphors, and partly because my background in linguistics and folklore got me hooked on etymology. These days I spend time exploring bird symbolism in literature, idioms, and everyday speech across English dialects and other languages. I keep field notebooks, old folklore books, and more than a few rescued pigeons and wild-caught sparrows that live in the backyard aviary. This site is my way of sharing what I've learned without pretending to be an ornithologist or cultural authority—just a curious language enthusiast who noticed birds mean a lot of different things depending on where and when you encounter them.
